Tokyo, Procrastination
Published on September 24, 2006 By momijiki In Health & Medicine
My feet have been killing me for about a year, but the last few weeks have been pretty bad. I can't stand for more than 5 minutes on my hardwood floor in bare feet or socked feet.

I can still go jogging and my feet are just tired. Nothing abnormal. But bare feet or any shoe that doesn't have an airsole? Forget it. High heels are the worst. Not that this is a surprise but the issue is that the bones in my feet and heels hurt.

Hubby is nice enough to give me lots of foot massages but he tends to do it Japanese style. That means bone crushingly hard. I'm wondering if that has caused problems. I've tried inserts but it doesn't help. There is no insert on this planet that is thick enough to get rid of the ouchies and still get my foot in a shoe.

For work, we are supposed to wear shoes with a hard sole. No sneakery type shoes. So that sucks. And that floor is HARD!

Another issue that has caught my attention is that I seem to be really bloated. No real edema in my legs or ankles but my face and belly!

Anyway, a whining blog, but anyone with advice to heal my aching dogs, don't hold back!

We are both in our late fifties, my wife and I, and I read the other day that feet, like shoes, wear out in time. I know that if I stand on a stray dog biscuit it is agony. The pads on your feet become so thin and sensitive that walking barefoot outside in the garden is a no-no. Also, the ankles get weaker and may need support. My feet are not half as bad as my wife's as she stands/walks about in a classroom all day. Her feet burn and ache. I do massage them but it is not a good remedy. The best remedies doctors give is a) get the best orthopaedic shoes you can afford, wrap feet in ice for 30 minutes at the end of the day and c) get off your feet and get them up. That is the most difficult thing to do if you don't want to stay off work. I realise now why many people in their seventies hobble around so much. Unfortunately we cannot get new tires like an automobile!

If you haven't already, go to the doctor. It sounds miserable. Have you tried those gel insoles? I haven't but they look like they would help.

Adnauseum gave great suggestions. Loca the gel insoles are great! I would say go to the doctor too if you tried home remedies that don't work. Especially since it's the bones in your feet. I sometimes have a problem with my feet too. Thank heavens massages and stretching my feet works! Hope you feel better soon.

I agree with Loco go to the doctor. Yes to Ads special shoes but not the ice, ohhhh it sounds too cold and achey!

*sends some air cushioning to land under your feet*

Hope that it gets easier and not harder for you.

Dr Sole's inserts.  I love barefoot, but if you have to wear shoes, they sure do work well!

I had no idea that could happen. That's kinda scary since I'm only 37. I will definitely look into getting insoles. A Doctor's visit is next if that doesn't help.

Sadly, Tokyo is not really a driving city. I take the train to most places and that means standing a lot.
Loca. FS, Jen and Dr G thanks for the advice.
