Tokyo, Procrastination
Published on June 9, 2008 By momijiki In Blogging

I recently wrote an article titled, "Self-Learning is Hard".  I am still doing on-line tutorials.  I just finished one about Adobe Illustrator for web and now I'm working on Photoshop for Web.  I am learning a lot.  I just upgraded from Photoshop Elements to CS3 and it's a huge leap.  I was not too bad with Elements but I'm really learning a lot now.  I'm also getting to the point where I don't have to repeat things as much because there is some repetition.  Also, Jan Kabilii, who does the tutorial, is very easy to listen to.  She is very concise.  She has fabulous diction as well.

I was moping about not making as much progress as I would like then I realized that one of the biggest problems I was having was sitting in my chair and doing the tutorials.  This chair is HARD!  Maybe this hard chair is what's really hard about learning on my own.  It's one of those correct posture chairs where you end up in a kind of folded kneeling position.  I still slouch.  If I don't I end up getting pressure bruises on my shins.  I was looking longingly at my bean bag chair and regretted that I couldn't use my mouse and watch the screen from there.

Then it hit me.  Use the tablet and move things over!  After 40 minutes in the bean bag chair, comfortably taking notes and navigating with the tablet, I now understand that this is the only way to fly! I even read some JU.  I'm sitting at the hard chair again to type this and I'm pretty uncomfortable.

I'm going to go take a break, eat some cheese, pineapple, watermelon and some melon while sitting on my balcony and watching the thunderstorm passing through.  Unless it starts raining too hard.  Then I'm going to go inside and find some other procrastination trick.

I still want to do another hour and a half today.  I'm not dreading it so much now that I found my bean-bag solution.

Good luck with your on-line tutorials. And yes, comfort does enhance the learning process.

You are smart and motivated, and uber cool because you have a bean bag chair! hahaha

Glad things are going better for you.
