Tokyo, Procrastination

I just bought a Coke in a glass bottle.  It's a special promotion thing for the Beijing Olympics.  It's not the best deal in town, but I love soda from a glass bottle.

It was great!  I drank it as soon as I got out of 7-11 and had it finished before I got home.  It was 250mL I think.  Not too much.

I can never drink soda straight from a can, particularly cola.  It's icky and the carbonation is too harsh.  I can sometimes drink it out of a plastic bottle, but it seems to be sweeter or more syrupy from a can and a plastic bottle.but I prefer to put it in a glass with ice.

Why does it taste so much better out of a glass bottle? Why?

Coke bottles must be making a comeback.  We can get the miniature ones here now too.  I'm not a huge cola fan, so a can is just fine with me.  But I really like fountain drinks when I want a soda.

How much did you pay?  And did it taste like real Coke?

When I lived in the Philippines and traveled through out Asia, I often bought Coke since water wasn't a safe bet....even bottled, anyway, they said it was Coke, but it SO wasn't Coke.  It was something else, made in Asia, and maybe its the water or something, but it tasted so wrong...hahaha.

Yeah it was in a coke bottle, or can, but it was not the real thing.

I guess it tasted like real Coke.  I'm not a purist or a huge soda drinker.  Maybe it's a bit sweeter here?  Just getting a craving for soda the last two days.  I don't remember what I paid for it.  Maybe 100-120 yen?  It was thirty yen cheaper than the regular single serving (500mL) bottle.  One can buy the 500mL bottle at a grocery store for 100 yen if it's on sale.  Regular price runs around 130 yen and 150 yen from some drink machines.

My sister and her friend drank some "Coke" when they were in Cuba two years ago.  They said it tasted like brown water.

I am a coca cola addict, I would take coca cola over pepsi 99% of the time (1% when I just feel like something different for a change). I can say if coke in a glass bottle is different cause I just can't bring myself to by such a small bottle (which will never come close to even half a satisfaction) for so much money.

I prefer a plastic bottle over a can because the bottle (for starters) does not give that metal taste I can't stand. It's like drinking water out of a hose, you get the rubber and metal flavor in the process. Also I get more gassy with a can than I do with a bottle (beats me why). And last, I can always close the bottle and reuse for water. Apart from I like the shape.

But, when it comes to flavor, I much prefer soda fountain soda. For some reason the flavor is usually just right for me and the ice helps big time (love soda with plenty of ice). I try to go to 7-11 when ever I get a chance to drink from the make-your-own-flavor soda machine. It allows me to add lemon, cherry and/or vanilla flavor to any of the sodas available. I am partial to cherry/vanilla coke but don't mind lemon every once in a while.

My mom use to tell me stories about the stuff they use to by as children and I always remember how she told me during shool she would go to the store with a dime her parents gave her for school (wow, a dime) and walked about with a glass bottle of coca cola (twice as bid as todays 16 ounce bottles) and 3 cookies. I can barely get gum with $1 these days. Amazing the changes thru out the years.

Yup that's how it tasted in Asia when I was there too.

Don't get me started on  their "pizza hut" and "hamburgers" made from some sickly sweet oxen looking animal.

Barf conversation you guys, LOL.

I like the idea of Coke in a bottle but then what would I do with the bottle after I drank the Coke?  Haha.

Have any of you had the Dr. Pepper with cane sugar in it?  Adrian hates it, but it is YUMMY!

Yea, try it in Germany - same thing.

But I agree - cans lend a tinny taste to any beverage (Beer or soda).  I prefer glass bottles as well, but that is impossible to find for sodas - EXCEPT Mexico!  There, almost all soda is in glass bottles.

When I was a little guy I used to gather up the glass bottles and refund them for cash...three pennies a bottle I think.  Everything tasted different then because all the sodas shifted over to corn syrup in the 70s.  The old sugar based sodas were...better?  I guess.  I can't drink anything but diet stuff now so most of the fun is gone.

Hey, Tex...throw it in the air and some teacher can shoot it for ya.

You can make a big old roach infested pile in the kitchen and call it your savings account like my mom did when I was a kid.
