camera phone phenonmena

Most people in Japan have a camera on their cell phone. Since I am still using my 5 year old phone, I have no idea how much they are. I have thought about getting one, since it would be nice to always have a camera handy for special moments but I will probably wait till this phone is on it's last staticky legs.

We had a dinner party a few days ago and near the end of dinner, we all decided to take pictures to commemorate the nice evening. A few people dug out digital cameras and a few dug out their phones. The digital camera took way better pictures, but the phones took some not bad shots as well. We all shared a laugh over the photos as we viewed them.

This is all pretty normal in a modern polaroid kind of way; but if someone said to you, "here take this thing and hold it over your head for a bit while you enjoy (enter name of event here)," what would you say? When you go out to an event with hundreds or thousands of people at least 30% of them are holding their phones high over their head to take pictures. It kind of reminds me of a rock concert when people turn on their lighters during a ballad. Those who can take short movies on their phone end up walking through hordes of people with their arm held high over their head to record something of the event.

If you have the phone then it probably doesn't seem weird, but watching a crowd of people with arms raised high over head like flamingo heads in the swamp certainly does.
