Tokyo, Procrastination
after three years of the darn things
Published on November 6, 2005 By momijiki In Blogging
I have finally finished a pair of mittens that I was knitting for my brother. I started them three years ago. If you count all the times that I have ripped them out and started over then I have actually made about five mittens. Not five pairs, just five. So if one was a pentapod...

The knitting itself is ok... the shaping (I used 4 double ended needles)... well. Let's just say I have learned the value of making notes when doing certain knitting projects...

Still and all, I am really glad to have one of these projects DONE!!!!

I'll try taking a photo of them and posting them to yahoo photos and see if I can get them on here.

Very cool! I'm trying to get into knitting, but it's far more difficult than I ever could have imagined.

Dharmagrl (an unbelievably accomplished knitter) suggested a book for me and even went so far as to send me an instructional DVD, needles, and yarn to help me out. I'm embarrassed that I haven't made more progress.

How long have you been knitting? Was it difficult for you to catch on initially?

Congrats again on the mittens! I'll be happy if I can ever manage a test square!

Thanks, Lady!

I've been knitting since junior high school (so long time) but don't often make anything nice.

Making the stitches isn't so hard, it's following the pattern for increasing and decreasing that get me.

I've only made three sweaters and only one of those looked good. It is really heavy though, so I don't get much chance to wear it anymore.

I made a pair of mittens for my sister that really looked good (it took two days of intense Buffy watching to finish them). Those ones were just folded over and sewn up the side so not so hard.

You'll get the hang of it and then you'll be off doing cables and using all sorts of colors! Patterns are the most fun. It's really cool to see the cables or the color design take shape. Then you start thinking to yourself, "just one more row!" It gets kind of addicting--like computer games.

Even if your first few projects don't turn out how you like, keep going because you will definitely get better!

Happy knitting!

I like this photo because you can't see all the pattern mistakes, and shape/size differences.

No picture momijiki.

I never learned to knit and admire you guys who do it. I learned how to do embroidery in grade school and did it for a long time. But not since I became an adult. I even planned on doing it again but still haven't gotten around to it!

Dang pictures. I even went with yahoo this time as I read somewhere that they post up...

THanks for letting me know F.

I do needlepoint, too. Great for watching TV that you only have to pay half a mind to. Someday I might finish a christmas stocking that I started three years ago as well. Maybe during the Christmas holidays.

Embroidery is really cool though. I love the looks of it, but can't make nice stitches unless they are all slanting in one direction!!!

Let me know if you start any up and post some pics.
