Ack.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep, that is how I feel right now. I don't know what it is about me but I have a tendency to get myself in over my head. Must be some sense of overwhelming self confidence that I probably shouldn't have. Feels like the energy rut I've been in is cycling out and I've got a lot of better focus. I'm teaching a math course and the whole teaching math thing is new for me. I'm working hard at it and I guess it's going ok, but this is probably NOT the job I sh...
Remember the movie Aliens when Ripley want to blow up the planet and the company guy says "no way" because it is too expensive? Ripley had the best comeback-- "They can bill me!" This is probably a vague parallel but... it seems like a lot of stuff that hasn't happened has not happened because no one authorized it. Whether it's using the city buses to evacuate people or the bringing in of troops, it seems to have slipped through the cracks of someone else's job or no one told me. Yet,...
Maybe I unknowingly clicked some buttons. Dunno, but my recent articles are anything but. Puzzling Any ideas?

Foreverserenity has a good discussion going about computer literacy. Link This blog is somewhat related to that, but mostly to a comment that someone made about a teacher saying (note the attempt at neutral terms here) why watching the movie of Romeo and Juliet was as good as treading he book. I really don't want to discss that issue here as arguements can be made for both sides. I also don't have the background to that comment as it wasn't included in the blog so I don't want to dis...
I was doing pretty well on this for about four days. Day 5 was a non post day so that I could go do stuff instead of sit around. Then tragedy struck. My hard-drive crashed completely. It happened gradually in dribs and drabs so I was able to back up all my documents except for my precious links in my favorites folder. It could have been worse. It could have been the big bang, and the repair shop upgraded the hard drive to 60G! Good for my little laptop. And since my computer ha...
I meant to blog about this a while ago. For some reason, our hot water is only a trickle from the kitchen faucet. For another reason, namely laziness, we haven't called the rental management company to have it fixed. We don't have a dishwasher and and it irritates the nuts out of me to rinse dishes in a trickle when it is my turn to wash. I really get pissed off. It's kind of funny if someone ranting amuses you. I could never figure out how my husband gets it done so quickly. Final...
This is inspired by Boudica's list of what have you done. Tova mentioned that she had a lot of other cool things that weren't on the list that were pretty cool. I know there are a lot of interesting people here on JU, so come on! What have YOU done? Share! It doesn't have to be ten. It could be more or less. 1. got married in Hawaii 2. got my blackbelt in jujitsu (included practical test and essay written in Japanese) 3. been in some...
It's been a really long time since I blogged here. I just posted an article about my trip to Thailand. It was a pretty long blog but doesn't go into a lot of detail about other stuff I've been doing. The last couple months have been crazy busy. I went home for almost three weeks at the end of October and beginning of November. It was great to be in Calgary and to see family and to attend the 2008 World Fantasy Conference. I was really lucky it was being held in m...
I recently wrote an article titled, "Self-Learning is Hard". I am still doing on-line tutorials. I just finished one about Adobe Illustrator for web and now I'm working on Photoshop for Web. I am learning a lot. I just upgraded from Photoshop Elements to CS3 and it's a huge leap. I was not too bad with Elements but I'm really learning a lot now. I'm also getting to the point where I don't have to repeat things as much because there is some repetition. Al...
When this event happened, my puppy was actually a full grown dog. Sadly, she's long since passed away. This dog was a femaie Sheltie named Boots. She was a fairly interesting animal. She'd originally been picked up by another family but returned when she didn't clear a vet check that discovered she had a heart murmur--probably a hole in her heart. As the breeder knew we were looking for a dog, she called my family and asked if we'd be willing to take her on and give her a...
Loca responded to my blog about cheesy songs and she mentioned a cheese form I haven't thought of in a long time Link --the party cheese ball. My mom has the best recipe for cheeseballs ever. I think it's from the Best of Bridge cookbook but I'm not sure. Mom's cheeseball is home made and covered in crushed walnuts. It is cheesy, creamy, spicy and spreadable on a cracker. I fell in cheesy love at first bite. When I moved to Vancouver to go to university I would get a craving for some...
On Saturday, Sunday (Feb 10), looked to be cold snowy and chilly. I had a mission-- I was going to try out a new camera (Mamiya 6) and take some photos of plum blossoms in the snow. The day itself started out with snow but it was warm and sunny and by noon the snow was a distant memory except in dark, shadowy places. A late start meant that any hope of snowy blossoms had already melted away. Then I realized that in order to take the picture I visualized I needed a macro lens and I didn...
